Discover Reformer Pilates at Exe Valley Pilates

Welcome to the Garden Studio... a beautiful purpose-built Pilates studio in the heart of Topsham, just outside Exeter.

Limited to just four people per class, our Reformer and Tower Pilates sessions combine expert tuition with personalised support in a calm, welcoming environment.

Whether you're new to Pilates or looking to build strength, improve mobility and move with greater confidence, our small group classes give you the time, space and guidance to progress safely.

Why choose Reformer Pilates?

Most people are familiar with mat Pilates, but Reformer Pilates uses specialist equipment to support and challenge your body in ways that simply aren't possible on a mat alone.

Using adjustable springs, pulleys and a moving carriage, the Reformer helps improve:

  • Core strength

  • Balance and stability

  • Flexibility

  • Posture

  • Joint mobility

  • Whole-body strength

  • Body awareness

Because resistance can be adjusted for every individual, Reformer Pilates is suitable for beginners through to experienced movers.

Because investing in your health should feel good.

No intimidating gym environment. No pressure to keep up. Just thoughtful movement, expert guidance and space to focus on yourself.

What makes Exe Valley Pilates different?

Unlike larger studios with busy classes, the Garden Studio welcomes a maximum of four people at a time.

That means you'll receive:

  • Personal coaching throughout every class

  • Exercises adapted for injuries or individual needs

  • Time to learn the equipment properly

  • Consistent teaching from Beth

  • A supportive, non-intimidating environment

  • Steady, sustainable progression

Our aim isn't simply to make you work harder... it's to help you move better.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reformer Pilates Sessions

About Our Equipment

Joseph Pilates designed his method as a complete system, combining mat work with specialist equipment.

At Exe Valley Pilates you'll use both the Reformer and the Tower, giving you the benefits of two complementary pieces of equipment.

The Tower’s in the Exe Valley Pilates Studio are from Align, some of the best equipment pilates provider’s. They are attached to the end of the Reformers and we add an additional thick platform to the reformer so that you are on a stable non moving surface. The Tower again has springs and pulley’s, less fixed, they allow us to work through brilliant control and stability. We feel, the beauty of the tower is in its ability to allow us to really deepen stretches, lengthen the spine and really feel the opening up of the body which today’s modern life can really hinder.

At the Studio we will use both the Reformer and Tower as well as covering mat exercises on the machinery because we can do that! We will also sometimes use the smaller equipment that is used in mat classes such as magic circles.

The benefit of a Garden Studio class is that learning and progressing doesn’t stop at the Studio door when you leave. Packages include a weekly online recorded mat class that is synced to the work you have covered in the studio that week to allow you to build on what you do at the studio for a stronger, healthier version of you.

About Our Garden Studio Classes

All Studio classes will start as Foundational reformer and tower and then progress.

  1. Foundation or Essentials classes - suitable for all including beginners. This is the place to start. You will learn the basics and move through foundational sequences with excellent tuition and care for health and safety and for you as an individual. Pilates principles are underlined and taught. You can stay here until you feel ready to progress.

  2. Improvers - For those who are ready to move beyond learning the apparatus, the basic fundamentals, feel in control and know and understand how to make good choices with the equipment. Please note you must have taken at least one Foundational class with Beth to attend this class.

  3. Strength and Flow. Only suitable for those without injuries, who have a good level of pilates understanding from matwork and have used the apparatus before. Invite only.

  4. Restore - for those who are recovering post rehab or with special conditions. Gentle supportive and steady. Depending upon the group you may be working through exercises independently depending on who is in the room.

  5. 1:1 - Your body your goals your pace. Please note 1:1s are limited as the studio is arranged purposely for small classes in order to gain help and personalised support.

There are many different machine manufacturers these days. Equipment and its operation varies from studio to studio. As does instruction. I insist on everyone partaking in a foundations class initially to understand the set up. Learn my sequences and routines and expectations. Health and Safety is paramount. Progression to the next level is at the discretion of the owner of EVP.

A calm space to move, learn and reconnect.

This isn't about chasing exhaustion or keeping up with everyone else. It's about building strength, confidence and resilience in a way that feels sustainable and enjoyable.
